Name: Annie Burca
Company role: Senior Claims Consultant, Sydney
Years of Experience in Marine Insurance: 15 Years
What was your first-ever job?
I grew up in Romania, and after completing my university degree in financial management and accounting, I started my first role in customer service for a mobile phone company. I remember the rigorous interview process which included multiple interviews as well as several tests, so I was extremely pleased when they advised I was successful.
About a year after starting this role, I decided to make the move to New Zealand and then onto Australia, where I have been for the past 20 years.
What have you enjoyed most about working at AM&T?
The part of my role I enjoy most is being part of a team of exceptional people. The team is always supportive, helpful and willing to share their knowledge. Working in the claims team, I get to talk to many brokers and help them with their complex claims. I enjoy the challenge of each claim as they are all very unique, but mostly I enjoy seeing a mutually positive outcome for the client and for AM&T.
What advice would you give a newcomer to the industry?
Listen to your instincts, if you love what you do, you will be able to do anything.
What have you learned during your time at AM&T?
The opportunities for learning are endless, especially when it comes to continual improvements to technology, systems and processes. I’ve realised the truth in the old proverb that ‘patience is a virtue’ and that hard work, pays off.
What do you enjoy doing on your days off?
On the weekends I am very busy being a mum. I have two children and they keep me busy with weekend activities. I also have to admit that I honestly like to cook and clean! When I am not working at home or at the office, I do enjoy getting out for walks in nature and sunshine.
